M/S Serenissima was built as Harald Jarl in Trondheim in 1960 for account of Det Nordenfjeldske Dampskibsselskab (NFDS). As Harald Jarl she operated Norwegian coastline in regular trade from 1960 until 2001.
In 2002, she was sold to a new owner and underwent at a Swedish yard between 2002/2003 a complete upgrade and conversion to a cruise/expedition vessel. She was renamed Andrea and began her new career cruising most continents, including the Arctic as well as Antarctic.
In 2013, she was again refurbished and upgraded by her then new owners, and relaunched as the Serenissima. She continued her wide operation to include both Europe and Caribbean, as well as Indian Ocean.
With her capacity for only 99 passengers and her welcoming classic country house-style interior design, the ship lives up to her name, which means “the most serene”, providing a uniquely intimate, friendly, and upmost relaxing cruising atmosphere for all her guests.
